In our latest update we deployed a new matchmaking system. But since that update went live, we’ve had a number of questions from players about how it works. Matchmaking is the process of determining appropriate player pairings when players are queuing up to play Hearthstone. The matchmaking process functions differently for each game mode. In each case, the goal is the same: to try to find a player of similar matchmaking value rating, rank or record as possible.
This update also includes several changes intended to remove undesirable behavior from the matchmaking pool. The matchmaker finds a team for players who enter the Random Battle queue. In doing so, several requirements must be met: teams should be similar in class and tier, yet differ in ways so that the strategy of the battle varies. Another important factor is keeping the queue wait time as small as possible.
